Outland Fitness brief (project 2)

Web Design 2
Project 2 - Web Site Brief
Designer:  Alex Tran
Web Site: www.outlandfitness.com

  • Client is a small business based in Naperville, IL that specializes in retailing sporting goods and organizing outdoor fitness activities. Besides of regular outdoor jogging, running, biking and yoga practices, Outland Fitness provides its members details about all local bike and hiking trails. Also Outland Fitness periodically organize affordable and exciting hiking and biking out-of-state tours for members.
  • Target Market Demographics: a fraction of adult residents in Naperville and neighboring towns who love to exercise outdoor in group.
  • Competitors: Sport Authority, Dick’s Sporting Goods and Performance Bike in Naperville. While Sport Authority and Dick’s Sporting Goods have many items available on their shelves, only Performance Bike provides some info about local bike trails to its customers. So the service from Outland Fitness is unique.
  • Client needs site designed to visually represent its audience through color, attitude, visuals, language, etc. Content (text)will be business-appropriate, with style and not too technical. It should be easy to navigate around the site.
  • Designer will create the interface, lay out the pages, specify any other elements. A separate team will add any necessary back-end coding.
  • Client is also requesting a logo design treatment that represents the spirit of the company and connects with the audience.
  • Client wants special attention paid to typography and photography. Type and image should complement each other.  No “cheesy” fonts or garish colors/imagery. All images should be professionally taken.

website search for project 2

Above are some sporting goods retailers' websites. They all look good with nice color scheme, good layout, proper typography and eye-catching images. I especially like the mountain back ground of Sport Authority. I came up with the same idea for my project, but it has been done... I really don't know what to do with my website's back ground...

final version for html newsletter

Based on the latest in-class critique, I modified my html newsletter (project 1) as shown above. Hopefully it looks a little better now.
